Friday, 8/13/10, 7:30 pm Sunday, 8/15/10, 2 pm Singletary Center for the Fine Arts (Lexington, KY)	World Premiere Double-Header 2.0: With Such Friends... Music by Tom Schnauber, Libretto by Jeff Duncan & Sutures and Love by Lorne Dechtenberg *With Such Friends...* is based on Nikolai Gogol's humorous short story The Squabble. Its amusing story follows two Russian noblemen whose tempers cause a simple disagreement to escalate far beyond any reasonable level. An excerpt from the opera was included in the New York City Opera’s VOX 2007 festival, but the work had never been performed in its entirety. Both Schnauber and Duncan came to Lexington for the premiere! *Sutures and Love* features music and libretto by Lorne Dechtenberg. Loosely based on Richard Sheridan’s classic play School for Scandal, the opera was previously titled Sex, Drugs, and Aliens. The work tells the story of a cosmetic surgery clinic and the events that take place there one fateful day. Under its earlier name, excerpts from the opera were presented in a workshop recital at the University of Houston, but the complete work had never been seen by any audience! Our thanks to everyone who made this performance possible -- we had our largest audience ever, and everyone had a great time. We'll be posting pictures and video from the production soon!
Saturday, 8/22/09 7:30 pm The Episcopal Church of St. Michael the Archangel 2025 Bellefonte Lexington, KY	World Premiere Double-Header: Quantum Mechanic Music by John Bilotta, Libretto by John McGrew & Chicken Little, The Sky Is Falling! by Gladys Smuckler Moskowitz Quantum Mechanic tells the futuristic tale of a sticky situation and the repairman who comes to fix it, while Chicken Little offers an up-to-date, jazz-style take on the age-old story about people, panic, and the power of suggestion. Tuesday, 8/4/09 7:30 pm Singletary Center for the Fine Arts (Lexington, KY)	*Don Perlimplín* by Gerald Janecek Based on the play by Federico Garcia Lorca, Don Perlimplín tells the story of an elderly bachelor who is convinced to marry a much younger woman. World Premiere concert reading, complete with chamber orchestra. The show was fabulous -- we even ran out of seats! We thank everyone who shared this special evening with us!
Monday, 9/8/08 8 pm Natasha's Bistro 112 Esplanade Lexington, KY	I Can't Believe It's Opera...or is it? An evening of excerpts from new operatic and musical theatre works The Bluegrass Opera's first performance consisted of scenes, songs, and ensemble numbers from 10 different works for the musical stage. Composers whose works were featured include Paul Boesing, Seth Boggess, Wallace DePue, Matthew Pierce, and the Bluegrass Opera's own Lorne Dechtenberg.
