A Centennial Celebration of Suffrage Through Song
Saturday 10/29, 7 p.m., Singletary Center for the Arts - Recital Hall
Music—especially songs—played a critical role in the American suffrage movement, serving as inspiration, social commentary, and sometimes even provocation. As we reflect on the brave women—and men—who fought for the right of women to vote (codified in 1920 by the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution), their music shines a light upon their struggle and provides a window into their day-to-day lives. This program by guest artist Audrey Johnson (mezzo-soprano) is designed to highlight these historical figures while also emphasizing the importance of civic engagement in our own time.
Tickets: $20 Adults (plus box office fee) / FREE for students
